Description

With the aging of the population, more and more patients above 65 years old need spinal surgery.
Conditions of the spine as well as their treatment have got age-specific considerations.
Challenges in the management of aging spine pathologies need more dedicated medical and surgical approach.
This course will address specific and controversial conditions such as spino-pelvic fixation or MIS in elderly.
This course will also describe in short lectures the challenges and possible options for primary and metastatic spinal tumors. New perspectives on aging spine surgery offer new learning insights for even an experienced surgeon. Risk factors and complications are highlighted topics of the course.
This course offers you a challenging learning experience with interactive sessions facilitated by faculty in their field of expertise, in a modular format. The course will comprise of evidence-based lectures, case presentations, discussions and debates between faculty and participants

Objectives
Correctly indicate and perform surgery including risk assessment and avoidance of complications.
Recognize the limitations of the degenerative spinal surgery in elderly.
Explain the controversies in the management of compression fractures.
Reduce their complication rate with the improvement of the decision making.
Explain the controversies around the different treatments.
Identify and determine how to approach complex cases in elderly.
