Description

The scope of this symposium includes the most controversial topics in the management of spinal tumors and infections. It will address the recent developments in the treatment of these challenging pathologies in the medical, radiotherapeutical and surgical fields. The symposium will try to give the most recent perspectives in spinal surgery, including less invasive techniques, spinal instrumentation in spinal infection, radical resections, spinal reconstructionand cement augmentation in spinal oncology.
It will comprise of evidence-based lectures, panel discussions, and case discussion; it will provide ample time for discussion between faculty and participants.

Objectives
Recognize the presence or possibility of spinal instability
Establish the diagnostic pathways in these challenging pathologies
Recognize the value of spinal biopsy and tumor staging
Recommend treatment based on consideration of benefit vs. risk and discuss a multidisciplinary approach (chemotherapy, radiation and surgical treatment options)
Select and perform appropriate surgical procedures for specific indications
Recognize the clinical spectrum of spinal infections and tumors
Recognize the fundamental skills required to perform the most appropriate operation for any given clinical pathology
